Executive Director

Position Summary

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of FVLC, with primary responsibility for growing and improving the quality of the programs and fundraising, and providing leadership for the board committees, the agency and the community at large. Reporting to the board of directors, the Executive Director ensures that FVLC is fiscally sound and that its internal and external communications, fundraising and programs are meeting the needs and interests of its constituents. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall direction and management of the organization’s programs, services, resource development, finances and personnel, in accordance with the organizational mission, strategic plan and operational policies of FVLC.

Qualifications:
  1. 5 to 10 years senior-level leadership/management experience, with significant experience managing financial activities, development, operations and human resources, budgeting, contract administration, and strategic planning, preferably in a nonprofit organization or with considerable interaction with the nonprofit sector. Experience working in the domestic violence field preferred.
  2. Graduate degree in an applicable field of study from an accredited college or university (MSW, MA, JD or equivalent degree minimum requirement). Law degree and experience as a practicing attorney is a significant positive but not required.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to build alliances and create collaborative relationships with other nonprofit/governmental entities.
  4. Proven ability to build and maintain highly motivated and diverse staff teams. Visionary, yet grounded.
  5. Exemplary communication skills, including public speaking and writing, and an ability to network and develop and maintain relationships with community representatives, business executives, foundation officials, donors and the media.
  6. Possess integrity, a strong work ethic, and passionate commitment to the work of FVLC.
  7. Comfort, familiarity, and capacity to work within the context of diverse communities and cultures.
  8. Demonstrated success in working with varied programs. Able to set priorities, track and monitor performance, complete projects and report on multiple projects and programs concurrently.
  9. Substantial record of successful fundraising from public and private sources to support nonprofit agency programs. Experienced in a variety of donor campaigns.
  10. Entrepreneurial drive in exploring new opportunities and creating new programs.
The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate brings passion for the mission of ending domestic violence. The ideal candidate is credible, competent and compassionate, with the ability to build a working team internally and serve as a strong voice to the community externally. He or she can both lead and manage, and bring technical competence, strategic vision and articulate engagement. A track record of leading a similar sized and aligned organization is a tremendous plus.

Finance & Operations Manager

Position Summary

FVLC’s administrative staff conduct critical business functions to ensure that FVLC operations run smoothly, and that staff have the information, equipment, and resources needed to efficiently and effectively work toward our mission. The administrative team is adept at leading and managing a variety of simultaneous projects, which requires the particular talent of being able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as key external stakeholders.

Skills & Abilities

A successful Finance & Operations Manager is a very flexible person who can stay productive when the demands of work are pulling you in many different directions at once. You are at your best in dynamic situations, and have the ability to perform professionally in a fast-paced environment along with the grace and willingness to change direction when circumstances demand. You thrive in situations with many things going on at the same time.

You’re a self-starter who can recognize where processes can be improved and will take the initiative to improve them. When faced with a complex situation involving many factors you enjoy managing all the variables and trying to figure out the best way to get things done. You have a reputation of being utterly dependable. People look to you to accomplish tasks because they know it will get done efficiently and accurately. You are numbers-orientated, but approach numbers with a strong drive to understand the meaning behind the data (financial, client service numbers, etc.) and enjoy helping to interpret it for others.

 

Using your strong communication skills, you effectively collaborate with a variety of people and job functions, which means you’ll acquire a thorough knowledge of FVLC’s programs and services. Responsibilities
  • Manage all day-to-day financial operations, including developing and implementing procedures for efficient finance functions, overseeing all A/P and A/R, and serving as the primary liaison with the accounting contractor.
  • Prepare all financial reports for grants and contracts and work in close collaboration with the Grants & Contracts Manager to ensure timely submittal of all required fiscal reporting.
  • Handle the operational human resource functions for the organization, including assisting with recruitment and hiring, managing all employee benefits plans, and supporting employee termination procedures.
  • Ensure that all basic office functions run smoothly including mail distribution and delivery, office supply orders, and equipment management.
  • Provide direct supervision to a part-time Information Systems Manager and guide the organization in building a more robust administrative team as funding allows.

 

This position is not limited to the duties described above. Duties and responsibilities may be changed, expanded, reduced, or deleted to meet the business needs of FVLC.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years administrative experience OR at least 5 years administrative experience, ideally in a nonprofit or other fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of financial functions and familiarity with nonprofit GAAP.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, familiarity with QuickBooks preferred.
  • Supervisory experience and familiarity with Information Systems management preferred.
  • Ability to relate well with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Criminal background check (provided upon hire).
  • Valid California driver’s license with an insured vehicle.

Classification:

Exempt, full-time.

Compensation:

Starting range is $42,000 – $48,250 annually, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, flexible spending account, and generous vacation plan.

Crisis Intervention Specialist

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Managing Advocate, the Crisis Intervention Specialist
(CIS) works with survivors of domestic violence to provide emotional support,
assistance navigating the criminal justice system, and linkages to other social
services, as necessary. The Crisis Intervention Specialist works as part of the
Family Violence Intervention Unit (FVIU) team. FVIU includes crisis services,
mobile response, and advocacy work. These services seek to support and stabilize
survivors, assisting them in assessing safety and seeking to bolster survivors’
freedom to move forward in their lives.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

A successful Crisis Intervention Specialist is someone
who is sensitive to the emotions and experiences of others. You are able to
have patience and empathy in moments of crisis or panic. You are able to identify
the unique strengths in others and help them cultivate their talents, and therefore
their successes. The Crisis Intervention Specialist enjoys a challenge, is able
to analyze a situation, reflect on the necessary actions, and seek out often
unconventional solutions. You enjoy working as part of a team, with enthusiasm,
empathy, and a passion for working collaboratively to empower others.

RESPONSIBILITES:

Crisis Intervention & Support
The CIS will make contact with at least 40 survivors monthly, identified primarily
from domestic violence police reports, to offer support and assistance in a
timely manner. Crisis Intervention includes but is not limited to:

  • Providing immediate intervention and safety planning for survivors and their families
  • Linking clients directly to other FVLC services, as needed
  • Providing advocacy within the criminal justice system, working closely with
    police investigators and the District Attorney’s Office
  • Providing court accompaniment and referrals to other social services, as appropriate

Empowerment-Based Case Management
The CIS will maintain a caseload of up to 3 survivors, who meet criteria for
longer case management services. Case Management includes but is not limited
to:

  • Participating in case review team meetings and contributing to collective
    decisions about enrollment, case plans, and termination of the case management
    relationship.
  • Maintaining an updated client file for each survivor, including a case
    plan and pertinent assessments.


Police Training and Community Outreach

  • The CIS will provide regular trainings to police officers and Neighborhood
    Crime Prevention Councils on the dynamics of domestic violence, types of restraining
    orders and legal protections, and FVLC services.

  • The CIS will conduct community outreach and provide educational presentations
    to targeted communities, as determined by the FVIU team and/or supervisor.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in regular case conferences with supervisor and/or
    FVIU team.
  • Attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled team meetings.
  • Work closely with collaborative partners including the police department
    and social service agencies.
  • Maintain data on client contacts, case information, program assessment
    and officer training needs.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the FVIU team and FVLC,
    through participating in data collection aimed at better understanding client
    needs and improving the program in response to those needs

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, or a related field OR
    at least two years related experience.
  • Basic understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence.
  • Ability to relate well with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic
    backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Valid California driver’s license and insured vehicle.
  • Criminal background check (provided upon hire).
  • CA Domestic Violence Counselor Certification (can be provided upon hire).

PREFERED QUALITIES:

  • Previous experience in crisis intervention.
  • Previous experience working with police departments, and/or understanding
    of the criminal justice system.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills and comfort speaking in front of groups.
  • Familiarity with social service agencies in Alameda County.
  • Interest in women’s and domestic violence issues.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese or Vietnamese.

CLASSIFICATION:

Non-exempt, full-time.

COMPENSATION:

Starting range is $15.84 – $18.90 per hour, commensurate with
education and experience. Benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage,
