Civil Restraining Orders
Our attorneys and legal staff can help you file for a restraining order if you are being abused by a current or former spouse or partner, or by a family member.
Child Custody, Visitation, and Support
If you have or want a restraining order, we may be able to assist you with child custody, visitation, and child support.
Divorce
In some cases, we can help you with paperwork and provide limited representation in divorce cases that involve an abusive spouse.
Emergency Assistance
If you are in immediate danger of violence, we can get you and your children to safety. We answer our crisis line 24 hours a day, and can help you think through your options if you are considering leaving an abusive relationship.
We also can help you and your children get to a safe location, local motel, or shelter, if necessary. And, where available, we can arrange for police-assisted relocation.
Family Violence Intervention Unit
We have advocates who work closely with the Oakland, Berkeley and Alameda police departments and the Alameda County Sherriff’s Department, in order to make victims of domestic violence safer and to improve law enforcement response to family violence. Our advocates will work with you to plan for your safety, support you as you talk with the police during an investigation, give you information about restraining orders, and link you to other social service agencies.
Safe at Home Confidential Address Program
To protect your whereabouts if you have moved to a new home, the Safe at Home program gives you a free post office box, so your new address remains as confidential as possible.
