Major Gifts Development Manager
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Executive
Director and in close partnership with the Program Development Manager,
the Major Gifts Development Manager supports all agency fundraising in
order to maintain and expand a $2.1 million budget. Specifically, the
Major Gifts Development Manager is responsible for securing major government,
foundation, and corporate grants, and overseeing major individual donor
campaigns. Major gifts are considered to be $1,000 or more for individual
donors, $5,000 or more for corporate donors, and $25,000 or more for foundations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Grant and Contract Management:
Development of concepts for major government and
foundation grants.
Research and author major government, corporate and foundation
grant proposals.
Participate in grant contract reporting and management,
particularly with new and/or major grants.
Report to the Executive Director on the status of the granting
process, including prospecting, relationship building, solicitation, writing,
and reporting.
Attend local city board and other grantor meetings as necessary.
Donor Relations:
Manage all major individual and corporate donor giving,
including working with the Program Development Manager to maintain and
improve the donor database.
Prospect, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major
individual donors and prepare for solicitation by Executive Director when
appropriate.
Work closely with the Executive Director to cultivate Major
Gifts relationships, maximize fund development, and diversify funding
sources.
Assist Executive Director in attracting financial supporters
to the organization through active and personal solicitation of foundations,
major individual donors, public entities, and corporations.
Coordination of FVLC Fundraising Events:
Develop and produce educational and networking events that
deepen the understanding of current and prospective donors in the agency’s
work.
Assist with the planning and implementation of a major annual
fundraising event, working closely with the Program Development Manager.
Communications and Materials Development:
Assist with developing agency promotional materials and
communication pieces, including newsletters, brochures, and annual reports.
Other:
Interface with Supervisory Team to understand and
develop the programmatic goals of the agency and work with program staff
to meet fundraising goals.
Manage and track agency goals for individual and corporate
fundraising, and participate in a monthly team meeting to report on progress
and discuss strategy.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Three years full-time related work in major fundraising
and grant writing.
Proven record of acquiring and maintaining major government
grants, from the federal to local levels.
Knowledge of requirements for major foundation funding.
Ability to maintain relationships with program officers
and major donors.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Proficient in a PC environment, with experience using Word,
Excel, Access, and Internet Explorer.
Ability to relate well with people from diverse socio-economic
and ethnic backgrounds.
Enthusiasm for a team approach to fundraising.
B.A. degree.
PREFERED QUALITIES:
Existing relationships and experience working with
local and national private foundations.
Experience fundraising for an agency working in the area
of family violence
or women’s health issues.
Interest in women’s and domestic violence issues.
Advanced degree.
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, full-time.
COMPENSATION: Starting range is $40,000 - $48,000 annually,
commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include medical,

Bilingual Family Law Staff Attorney (FREMONT
OFFICE)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Bilingual English/Spanish
Full-time Exempt

Agency Description:
The Family Violence Law Center (“FVLC”) is a non-profit community
based organization that provides domestic violence restraining order and
family law legal services as well as related support services to battered
persons and their children in Alameda County, California. To learn more

Required Background and Skills:
The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
Currently licensed to practice law in California and in good standing
with the California State Bar.
No less than two (2) years direct legal experience as an attorney, litigating
and representing clients in domestic violence and/or family law cases.
Familiarity and experience with both state and federal domestic violence
and family laws, as well as practical experience with the California Rules
of Evidence, Rules of Court, and the Code of Civil Procedure.
Must be bilingual (English/Spanish), and demonstrate cultural competency
as it relates to Spanish speaking clients.
Excellent written and oral communication skills including experience
writing and filing court pleadings such as: memorandums of points and
authorities, ex parte applications and motions in limine.
Strong organizational skills and record keeping abilities, as well as
the ability to juggle various tasks as required of an attorney with an
active case load.
Ability to relate well with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic
backgrounds.
Ability to be a “self-starter” and maintain a caseload of
ongoing cases, working independently at FVLC’s South Bay office
and also work on various legal department and agency-wide projects and
committees as part of a team.
Proficient with Microsoft Word and have a basic understanding of California
Judicial Council legal forms.

interest in family law and domestic violence issues.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Bilingual Staff Attorney will:
Represent survivors of domestic violence in domestic violence restraining
order cases and related family law cases, including dissolution cases,
primarily in the Fremont and Hayward courts.
Conduct intake interviews with victims of domestic violence, prepare
legal documents, maintain ongoing communication with the clients and represent
them in court. The bilingual attorney will also be required to do community
outreach and training and provide domestic violence presentations to other
community agencies.
Represent the agency at one or more community committees related to
domestic violence legal advocacy and will generally be expected to perform
other duties as required for the betterment and administration of the
agency.
Be required to travel to both FVLC’s main offices in Oakland
and the Alameda County Family Justice Center in Oakland, on a regular
basis, to attend staff and legal department meetings, attend trainings,
make court appearances, provide outreach, and participate in community
meetings.
