Browsers
There are many different browsers available today. They are free and have come a long way in even the last five years. In the early days, we paid for services like AOL that both connected us and provided a browser. These days we connect using a cable or phone company, and are free to use the browser(s) of our choice.
If you decide to install an alternate browser, be sure to discard short-cuts and icons that will announce it’s presence, and NEVER use it for sensitive browsing, without the private browsing option turned on.
With the exception of Internet Explorer, all of these browsers are compatible with both Mac and PC platforms and can be installed in addition to your current browser. All have private browsing options.
Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer is the browser that comes installed on PC’s. For this reason, it is still the most widely used browser, but is not the most standards compliant (it has its own rules for showing content) and has been falling out of favor as new browsers have been developed with common standards. If you have a PC, you probably have the latest version of this browser that will work with your computer.
Other Browser Alternatives
All of these browsers can be downloaded and basically self-install in minutes. These are the most widely used browsers. As such, they are the most widely supported and up-to-date with modern standards.
Firefox
Firefox has been around for many years now, and is the second most popular browser. Firefox has a private mode called “Private Browsing”.
